Fun Candy Cane Facts

Initially, candy canes used to be straight

At first, candy canes were straight; They were simple candies that did not mean a lot to children or adults during Christmas.

But today, you will find different shaped candies; However, the common ones are bent candy canes.

So, how did they become curved at the end?

The first version is that children used to steal candy canes.

So, to ensure the candies were well attached to Christmas trees, the makers started making them curved.

Hence, kids could not take the sweets from the Christmas trees without a fight.

Mostly boys would bite their candy canes opposed to sucking them.

The other version is that since they normally gave those candies to children choir members in church during Christmas by the choirmaster, he had the candies bent to look like a shepherd’s hook.

This was to instill some holiness into the situation. Also, it is believed that the hook represents J for Jesus.
